Webmaster

The troop Webmaster updates and maintains the troop website. The troop web site is an important source of information for current and potential members of the troop. The Webmaster is charged with keeping the information on the web site up to date and presenting the information in a user-friendly manner. Works with the adult Webmaster to maintain troop and individual security when using the troop web site. The Webmaster is also the administrator for the Troop 87 Forum, the Troop Posting System (TPS) blog and the Twitter account.

  • The Webmaster will be responsible for the contents of the troop website, following the BSA guidelines.
  • Makes changes or adds information and links to the troop website at the request of the SPL, Scoutmaster, or the Troop Committee.
  • Helps maintain and regularly updates troop rosters and other lists on the troop website.
  • Periodically checks any links to scout-related and other websites to see if they are still accurate.
  • Administers and maintains the Troop Posting System (TPS) blog and the Twitter account.
  • Administers and maintains the Troop 87 Forum, admitting scouts and adults with permission for useage, and determining levels of access.
  • Teaches the SPL and Scribe how to post messages to the troop website using the Troop Posting System (TPS) blog.
  • Assists the Historian with uploading photographs and other recordings of troop activities to the website.
  • Maintains all files and other resources associated with the Webmaster position, and hands them over to the in-coming Webmaster at the end of his term of office.
  • Trains the new Webmaster, as necessary, when his term is completed.
  • May teach internet safety skills to scouts working on the First Class internet requirement.
  • Sets a good example.
  • Enthusiastically and correctly wears the Scout uniform.
  • Lives by the Scout Oath and Law.
  • Shows Scout spirit.

Qualifications: Must be familiar with the principles and techniques of web design and have sufficient knowledge of coding and programming languages necessary to maintain the troop website. Candidates for this position must have the approval of the adult webmaster for the troop prior to troop elections.
