Historian
The Troop Historian keeps a historical record or scrapbook of troop activities. He collects and preserves troop photographs, news stories, trophies, flags, scrapbooks, awards, and other memorabilia, and makes these materials available for scouting activities, the media, and troop history projects.
- Records troop activities and outings using a photo camera or camcorder.
- Gathers pictures and facts about Troop activities and keeps them in an historical file or scrapbook, or digital archive format.
- Works with the Webmaster to post current photos and other items to the troop web site.
- Prepares a digital slide show of recent troop activities to present at a Court of Honor, which can also be shown at the Stanford District Webelos Open House.
- Keeps information about former members of the Troop, like the Troop 87 Eagle's Eyrie containing the invitations and programs of past Eagle Courts of Honor.
- Takes care of Troop trophies, ribbons, and souvenirs of Troop activities.
- Sets a good example
- Enthusiastically and correctly wears the Scout uniform
- Lives by the Scout Oath and Law
- Shows Scout spirit.
Qualifications: Enthusiasm and good attendance at troop activities and outings.
Reports to: SPL
Librarian
The Librarian oversees the care and use of Troop books, pamphlets, magazines, audiovisuals, and merit badge books. He checks out these materials to Scouts and leaders and maintains records to ensure that everything is returned. He may also suggest the acquisition of new literature and reports the need to repair or update any current holdings. The Librarian should also be familiar with scouting information resources available on the internet.
- Sets up and takes care of the Troop library.
- Keeps records of books, pamphlets and other resource material owned by the Troop.
- Keeps books and pamphlets available for borrowing.
- Keeps a system for checking books and pamphlets in and out, and follows up on late returns.
- Requests funds to add new or replacement items, as needed.
- Maintains a listing of scouting resources available on the internet, and helps scouts to locate information on scout-related web sites.

Scribe
The function of the Scribe for Troop 87 is to facilitate communication of the proceedings of the Troop Leaders Council (TLC) and announcements from troop meetings to the troop at large, using email and internet message systems which have been set up for that purpose. The Scribe is responsible for writing informational articles and other promotional pieces featuring troop activites to be published in "The Echo", the monthly newsletter of the Mountain View Buddhist Temple, and for similar publications or other events. The Scribe is also responsible for coordinating thank-you letters or other correspondence on the behalf of the scouts of Troop 87.
- Attends and keeps a log of the proceedings of Troop Leaders Council (TLC) meetings.
- Prepares a summary of issues discussed in the TLC and the troop activities for the month, including the topic of the activity/meeting, the date, the name of the scout in charge, and any other pertinent information pertaining to the activity/meeting, to be included in the monthly "Scribe's Notes" message.
- Arranges for another scout to take notes for him or make an audio recording if he will not be able to attend the TLC, and notifies the ASPL of the substitution.
- Ensures that the "Scribe's Notes" will be posted no later than Friday the week of the TLC, providing corrections and updates as necessary.
- Prepares and submits a Boy Scout Report each month to be included in "The Echo", coordinating with the Temple Representative to obtain the contact information for the current editor. Depending on the submission dates, the report may either be highlights of recent events or an introduction to upcoming events.
- Obtains stationery and/or greeting cards and obtains scout signatures for thank-you notes and similar correspondence to be forwarded on behalf of the scouts of Troop 87.
- May be assigned other writing or communications tasks by the Scoutmaster or the SPL.
- Sets a good example.
- Enthusiastically and correctly wears the Scout uniform.
- Lives by the Scout Oath and Law.
- Shows Scout spirit.
Qualifications: Selected by troop election.
